• The Department of Food and Public Distribution announced on 27 February 2026 that rice fortification under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) and allied schemes will be temporarily discontinued until a more effective nutrient delivery mechanism is found.
