GI-tagged Kaladi of Udhampur to be upscaled with food technology

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on 21 January 2026 directed CSIR labs to upscale Kaladi, the GI-tagged traditional dairy product of Udhampur district in Jammu & Kashmir, for wider food uses.

Summary

Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, directed that Kaladi be upscaled for wider recipes while preserving its original flavour, texture and nutrition. Kaladi has been identified under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative for technology-driven scale-up. The minister said limited shelf life is the biggest barrier to selling it beyond local markets, and asked for scientific validation, packaging and processing to extend it.
