🔐 Coding-Decoding

Letter shifting, opposite letters, reversal, number codes, substitution and sentence coding — find the rule and apply it to the new word.

📌 1. Base: Letter Position Table

LetterPositionOpposite
A1Z (26)
E5V (22)
J10Q (17)
M13N (14)
O15L (12)
T20G (7)
Y25B (2)
💡 Memory Tip: Opposite letter = 27 − position. Remember: AZ, BY, CX, DW, EV, FU, GT, HS, IR, JQ, KP, LO, MN.

📌 2. Types of Coding

TypeExample
Letter shift (+n/−n)CAT → DBU (+1)
Varying shiftBOOK → CQRO (+1,+2,+3,+4)
Opposite lettersGOLD → TLOW
ReversalMANGO → OGNAM
Reverse + shiftBAD → DAB → EBC
Position sumCAT = 3+1+20 = 24
Letter → numberBED = 2 5 4
Substitution'sky' is called 'sea'…
⚠️ Exam Traps:
  • In substitution, answer with the new name, not the real one. 'Sky is water, water is tree — where do fish live?' Answer = tree.
  • Shifts are cyclic: Z + 1 = A.

📌 3. Sentence / Word Codes (Common-word method)

  • A word common to two sentences has the code common to both.
  • Example: 'tin pa lo' = 'I eat rice', 'pa ko mi' = 'they eat fruit' → 'pa' = eat.
  • The order of codes usually does not follow the order of words.

📌 4. Number-based Coding

  • Sum / product of positions / sum × number of letters.
  • Reverse positions (Z=1): A=26.
  • Digit-symbol codes: in conditional questions, check the conditions first.

📌 5. Practice MCQs
