Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved 56 new watershed development projects worth ₹700 crore under the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) on 13 January 2025. The projects are in 10 best-performing states: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim. They will cover about 2.8 lakh hectares, with each project of about 5,000 hectares (less in hill states). The scheme is implemented by the Department of Land Resources; 1,150 projects covering about 50 lakh hectares at ₹12,303 crore were sanctioned under WDC-PMKSY 2.0 in 2021-22.
