The PLI Scheme for Specialty Steel, whose third round was launched on 4 November 2025, was approved by the Union Cabinet in July 2021 with an outlay of ₹6,322 crore to make India a hub for high-value steel grades and cut imports in sectors such as defence, power and aerospace. Its first two rounds attracted committed investment of ₹43,874 crore, of which ₹22,973 crore has been invested, and created over 13,000 jobs. The scheme covers 22 product sub-categories, including super alloys, CRGO, alloy forgings, stainless steel, titanium alloys and coated steels, with incentives of 4% to 15% for five years from FY 2025–26 and disbursal from FY 2026–27.
