On 25 October 2024, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid, by video conferencing, the foundation stone of a solar hydrogen-based microgrid that NTPC is setting up in partnership with the Indian Army at Chushul, Ladakh. Designed by NTPC to work independently using hydrogen as energy storage, it will supply 200 kW of power round the clock throughout the year and replace diesel gensets at off-grid Army locations. NTPC aims to reach 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
