NMDC was set up in 1958; it produced about 10 MT in 1978 and about 30 MT in 2015, and nearly one-fifth of its current capacity was added in the last four years. Chairman and Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee credited the 'NMDC 2.0' programme. Its mechanised mines are in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, and the release linked the milestone to India's target of 300 MT of steelmaking capacity by 2030.
