The Ministry of Defence signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) in New Delhi on 28 July 2025 to set up a Mechanical & Material domain testing facility at Tiruchirappalli in the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor, under the Defence Testing Infrastructure Scheme (DTIS). Micro Labs, a private firm, is the lead member of the Special Purpose Vehicle, with TIDCO, Bharat Earth Movers Limited, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Vaidheswaran Industries. DTIS, launched by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh with an outlay of ₹400 crore, gives up to 75% of project cost as grant-in-aid, and the SPV funds the remaining 25%. Seven testing facilities have been approved in the Defence Industrial Corridors: four in Tamil Nadu and three in Uttar Pradesh.
