The Ministry of Power announced on 28 June 2025 in New Delhi the launch of a task force to conceive the India Energy Stack (IES), a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the power sector. The IES will offer unique IDs for consumers, assets and transactions, real-time consent-based data sharing and open APIs. The Ministry will run a 12-month Proof of Concept, including piloting the Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP) with DISCOMs in Mumbai, Gujarat and Delhi. Power Minister Manohar Lal said the IES would do for the power sector what Aadhaar did for identity and UPI for payments.
