Meghalaya Cabinet approves Electric Vehicle Policy 2026
The Meghalaya Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, approved the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 on 27 July 2026, offering EV buyers an incentive of ₹25,000 and a full waiver of registration fees.
Summary
Announcing the decision, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak said anyone buying an electric vehicle will get an incentive of ₹25,000 along with free registration. Buyers who produce a vehicle-scrapping certificate under the State's scrapping policy will get additional incentives, to be finalised later, and sites for charging stations have been identified. The new policy succeeds the State's 2021 EV policy, which had a five-year term. The Cabinet also renamed the New Shillong Township Development Agency as the New Shillong Development Authority.
