Four people were killed and dozens injured in Leh on 24 September 2025 when a protest demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for the Union Territory of Ladakh turned violent. Protesters set fire to a political party office and a police vehicle, and the Ministry of Home Affairs said more than 30 police and CRPF personnel were injured and that police opened fire. Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta imposed a curfew across Leh district. The Home Ministry said the next meeting of the High-Powered Committee on Ladakh was scheduled for 6 October.
