INST Mohali develops targeted nano-formulation for Parkinson's disease
Scientists at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali developed a targeted nano-formulation for sustained release of the hormone 17β-Estradiol to the brain for Parkinson's disease, PIB reported on 27 January 2025.
Summary
Scientists at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology in Punjab, developed a targeted nano-formulation for Parkinson's disease, PIB reported on 27 January 2025. INST Mohali used Dopamine Receptor D3 conjugated to 17β-Estradiol-loaded chitosan nanoparticles for sustained release of the hormone to the brain. The formulation protected neurons from mitochondrial damage in a rodent model and showed for the first time that BMI1 is a substrate of calpain.
