India to chair UNCTAD's Ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection

India, represented by Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare, will chair the Ninth Session of UNCTAD's Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, from 6 to 8 July 2026, the Department of Consumer Affairs said on 5 July 2026.

Summary

The Department of Consumer Affairs announced on 5 July 2026 that India will chair the Ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Consumer Protection Law and Policy, organised by UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, from 6 to 8 July 2026. Secretary Nidhi Khare was invited by UNCTAD to chair it. The session will see the launch of the United Nations Principles for Consumer Product Safety, adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2025, and a voluntary peer review of Argentina's consumer protection law and policy. The IGE was set up under General Assembly resolution 70/186 of 22 December 2015, which revised the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection first adopted in 1985 by resolution 39/248.
