ECI announces three initiatives: death registration data from RGI, redesigned voter slips, BLO photo IDs
The Election Commission of India announced on 1 May 2025 that it will obtain death registration data electronically from the Registrar General of India, redesign Voter Information Slips and issue photo ID cards to BLOs.

The Election Commission of India announced three initiatives on 1 May 2025 to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls and make voting easier. It will obtain death registration data electronically from the Registrar General of India under Rule 9 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and Section 3(5)(b) of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 (as amended in 2023). Voter Information Slips will show the voter's serial and part numbers more prominently. All Booth Level Officers, appointed by EROs under Section 13B(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, will get standard photo identity cards. The measures follow ideas set out by CEC Gyanesh Kumar at the Conference of Chief Electoral Officers.
