DRDO and the Indian Navy successfully flight-tested the Vertically Launched Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the Odisha coast at about noon on 26 March 2025. Fired from a land-based vertical launcher, the missile destroyed a high-speed aerial target at very close range and low altitude, establishing its near-boundary low-altitude capability. All elements were deployed in combat configuration, including the missile with an indigenous radio frequency seeker, the multi-function radar and the weapon control system. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called it an excellent force multiplier for the Navy.
