The DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) at IIT Hyderabad, Telangana demonstrated a Large Area Additive Manufacturing (LAAM) System for fabricating rocket components, the Defence Ministry announced on 31 January 2025. The LAAM System uses laser and blown-powder Directed Energy Deposition with dual heads and has a build volume of 1m x 1m x 3m, making it one of the largest metal additive manufacturing machines in India. The LAAM System was developed by IIT Hyderabad with DRDO's Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Hyderabad and industry partners, and has fabricated a component one metre in height.
