The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved three railway projects worth about ₹18,509 crore on 13 February 2026: 3rd and 4th lines on the Kasara–Manmad, Delhi–Ambala and Ballari–Hosapete sections. The projects cover 12 districts in Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka and will add about 389 km to the Indian Railways network by 2030-31. They will connect about 3,902 villages with a population of about 97 lakh and carry an extra 96 million tonnes of freight a year. They will also improve access to places such as Trimbakeshwar and Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
