On 25 November 2024, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved the launch of the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) as a standalone Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. The total outlay is ₹2,481 crore (Centre ₹1,584 crore, States ₹897 crore) till the 15th Finance Commission period (2025-26). Over the next two years, NMNF will be implemented in 15,000 clusters in willing Gram Panchayats, reaching 1 crore farmers and starting natural farming on 7.5 lakh hectares. Around 2,000 natural farming Model Demonstration Farms will be set up at Krishi Vigyan Kendras, agricultural universities and farmers' fields. Farmers will get a simple certification system and common branding, and implementation will be monitored through a geo-tagged online portal.
