Cabinet approves ₹5,659.22 crore Mission for Cotton Productivity for 2026–27 to 2030–31

On 5 May 2026 the Union Cabinet approved the Mission for Cotton Productivity with an outlay of ₹5,659.22 crore for 2026–27 to 2030–31, aligned with the '5F' vision, to raise cotton yields and quality and make India self-sufficient in cotton.

The Mission for Cotton Productivity, with an outlay of ₹5,659.22 crore for 2026–27 to 2030–31, was approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi on 5 May 2026 to tackle bottlenecks, slowing growth and quality concerns in India's cotton sector. Aligned with the Government's 5F vision — Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign — the mission will develop high-yielding, climate-resilient and pest-resistant seeds, scale up the High Density Planting System and Extra Long Staple cotton, modernise ginning and testing, and strengthen branding and traceability under 'Kasturi Cotton Bharat'. It also promotes digital integration of mandis, cotton waste recycling and diversification into natural fibres such as flax, ramie, sisal, bamboo and banana.
