Andhra Pradesh Cabinet resolves to seek statutory status for Amaravati as sole capital

On 26 March 2026 the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet chaired by CM N. Chandrababu Naidu passed a resolution asking the Centre to declare Amaravati the state's sole capital by amending Section 5 of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on 26 March 2026 passed a resolution requesting the Union government to declare and notify Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh by amending Section 5 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, in line with the AP High Court Full Bench order of 3 March 2022. The resolution was to be placed before the Legislative Assembly on 28 March and then sent to the Centre for Parliament's approval. The Cabinet also decided to withdraw its Special Leave Petitions in the Supreme Court against the High Court judgment.
