The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) notified the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025 on 31 January 2025 under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016. The amended Aadhaar rules let both government and non-government entities use Aadhaar authentication for public-interest services, such as e-commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality and health. Entities must apply to the concerned Central or State ministry or department through a portal; UIDAI examines the applications and MeitY grants approval on UIDAI's recommendation.
