Summary
The 11th India–European Union Human Rights Dialogue was held in New Delhi on 8 January 2025. The India–EU dialogue was co-chaired by Piyush Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Europe West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Hervé Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India. The two sides exchanged views on developments since the last dialogue in July 2022, covering civil and political rights, freedom of expression, gender and the rights of the child, and technology and human rights. The EU reiterated its opposition to capital punishment, while India reiterated its stand on the Right to Development as a distinct, universal and fundamental human right; both agreed on closer cooperation at the UN General Assembly and UN Human Rights Council.
