YIL's sales grew from ₹956.32 crore in 2021-22 (second half) to ₹3,108.79 crore in 2024-25, and its exports from nil to ₹321.77 crore. The status lets the YIL board approve capital expenditure of up to ₹500 crore without government approval. YIL is one of seven Schedule 'A' DPSUs formed when the Ordnance Factory Board was corporatised on 1 October 2021, and works under the Department of Defence Production. In May 2025, three other new DPSUs — Munitions India Limited, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited and India Optel Limited — got Miniratna-I status. YIL makes carbon fibre composites, assemblies for ammunition, armoured vehicles, artillery guns and tanks, glass composites and aluminium alloys.
