India recorded the fastest growth in patent applications (+15.7%) in 2023 among the top 20 origins, its fifth straight year of double-digit growth, and ranks sixth globally with 64,480 patent applications, with residents filing over half (55.2%) for the first time. India's industrial design applications rose 36.4%, and it ranked fourth in trademark filings, which grew 6.1%. India's trademark office holds the second-largest number of active registrations worldwide, over 3.2 million.
