Bhupender Yadav opens Advanced Pashmina Certification and Next Generation DNA Sequencing facilities at WII Dehradun
The Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, received two new facilities on 21 December 2024, building on the Pashmina Certification Centre opened a year earlier.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the Advanced Facility for Pashmina Certification and a Next Generation DNA Sequencing (NGS) Facility at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on 21 December 2024, in the presence of Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh. The facilities build on the Pashmina Certification Centre (PCC) that the Minister inaugurated the previous year, when it issued its first unique ID barcode and certificate. NGS technology decodes entire genomes by analysing millions of DNA sequences simultaneously; at WII it will support work on population genetic health, disease outbreaks, detection of illegal wildlife trade and the effects of climate change on biodiversity.
