WAVES 2025, India's first-of-its-kind World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, on 1 May 2025. The four-day summit, organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is built on four pillars: Broadcasting and Infotainment; AVGC-XR; Digital Media and Innovation; and Films. Season-1 of the Create in India Challenge crossed 85,000 registrations, including 1,100 international participants. The Prime Minister described content, creativity and culture as the three pillars of the Orange Economy, and recalled that India's first feature film, Raja Harishchandra by Dadasaheb Phalke, was released on 3 May 1913.
