On 5 November 2024, the Defence Ministry announced that Additional Director General (Retd) V D Chafekar, formerly of the Indian Coast Guard, has been appointed the seventh Executive Director of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC), Singapore. The ReCAAP ISC Governing Council appointed him for 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2028. Established in 2006, ReCAAP is the first regional government-to-government agreement to promote cooperation against piracy and armed robbery at sea in Asia.
