Centre notifies VB–G RAM G Act, 2025 to come into force from 1 July 2026; MGNREGA to stand repealed

On 11 May 2026 the Centre notified that the Viksit Bharat – G RAM G Act, 2025, guaranteeing 125 days of wage employment, will come into force nationwide from 1 July 2026, when MGNREGA, 2005 stands repealed.

Summary

The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB–G RAM G] Act, 2025 will come into force across all rural areas from 1 July 2026, the Centre notified on 11 May 2026, and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 will stand repealed from the same date. Every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled manual work will be entitled to 125 days of wage employment a year, with unemployment allowance if work is not given in time and wages paid weekly or within 15 days of closing the muster roll. The Centre has allocated ₹95,692.31 crore for 2026-27, the highest-ever Budget Estimate for a rural employment programme, and the total outlay with States is expected to exceed ₹1.51 lakh crore. MGNREGA employment continues until 30 June, ongoing works carry over, and e-KYC verified job cards stay valid until Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards are issued.
