On 3 October 2025, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Japan's Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Hiromasa Nakano, visited sites of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (bullet train) project. At Surat they watched the J-slab ballast-less track being installed on the viaduct. They then travelled to Mumbai by Vande Bharat Express and reviewed the underground Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station. Its excavation has passed 30 metres in depth with about 84% done, and it will have three levels with road and metro links. As of September 2025, 323 km of viaduct, 399 km of piers and 211 km of track bed were complete on the 508 km corridor. Seventeen river bridges, 5 PSC bridges and 9 steel bridges had also been finished. The Railways said the visit showed the strong India–Japan partnership on the country's first high-speed rail corridor.
