UPSC holds Civil Services Prelims 2026 at 2,072 venues; real-time face authentication used for the first time

On 24 May 2026 UPSC conducted the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026, including the IFS (Preliminary), at 2,072 venues in 83 cities, using real-time face authentication of candidates for the first time.

The Union Public Service Commission conducted the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026, including the Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination 2026, on 24 May 2026 at 2,072 venues in 83 centres (cities). Of 8,19,732 applicants, nearly 5.49 lakh (about 67%) appeared, as per provisional data, compared with about 61% (around 5.8 lakh of nearly 9.5 lakh) in 2025. For the first time, UPSC used real-time face authentication of candidates at venues to prevent impersonation; the indigenous system developed through NeGD of MeitY worked across all 2,072 venues. UPSC Chairman Dr Ajay Kumar expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exam.
