The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 22 December 2025 approved forming the Kashi-Vindhya Region (KVR), with a regional development authority for planned development of seven eastern districts: Varanasi, Jaunpur, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Sonbhadra. The Kashi-Vindhya Region, modelled on the State Capital Region around Lucknow, will be chaired by the Chief Minister and is home to about 2 crore people. The UP Cabinet approved 25 proposals in all at the meeting.
