Summary
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) partnered with Sarvam AI, a Bengaluru-based indigenous full-stack Generative AI company, through an agreement effective 18 March 2025. Sarvam will deploy AI voice-based interactions to get near real-time feedback from Aadhaar holders on enrolment and updates, including any overcharging, and send real-time fraud alerts if it spots anything suspicious during authentication. Voice interaction and fraud detection will work in 10 languages: Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi and Malayalam. The custom GenAI stack is hosted on-premise in an air-gapped UIDAI environment so no data leaves UIDAI; the solution was built under UIDAI's volunteer policy with its Technology Centre in Bengaluru, and UIDAI owns it. The agreement is valid for one year, extendable by one more.
