UIDAI rolls out Aadhaar authentication framework for State and District Central Cooperative Banks
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 21 August 2025 rolled out a framework enabling all 34 State Cooperative Banks and 352 District Central Cooperative Banks to offer Aadhaar-based authentication services.
Summary
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 21 August 2025 rolled out a new framework to onboard cooperative banks for Aadhaar-based authentication services, marking the International Year of Cooperatives. Developed in consultation with the Ministry of Cooperation, NABARD, NPCI and cooperative banks, it covers all 34 State Cooperative Banks (SCBs) and 352 District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs). Only the SCBs will register with UIDAI as Authentication User Agencies (AUA) and eKYC User Agencies (KUA), while DCCBs will use the Aadhaar authentication application and IT infrastructure of their respective SCBs, removing the need for separate systems. Services such as biometric eKYC and face authentication are expected to ease account opening, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
