TRAI drive test in Mumbai finds MTNL far behind on call success and drop rates

TRAI released findings on 13 January 2026 of its Independent Drive Test of mobile networks across 320.2 km of Mumbai in November 2025, which showed MTNL with a 28.52% call setup success rate.

Mumbai's mobile networks were tested by TRAI in an Independent Drive Test (IDT) over 320.2 km of city, coastal and local railway routes from 3 to 7 November 2025, with findings released on 13 January 2026. The tests, supervised by TRAI's Regional Office in Bengaluru, covered 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G voice and data services. In auto-selection mode, call setup success rates were 99.62% for Airtel, 99.81% for Reliance Jio, 96.07% for Vodafone Idea and 28.52% for MTNL, while MTNL's drop call rate was 22.47% against 0.00% for Airtel.
