Centre approves transport component of Market Intervention Scheme for tomato in Madhya Pradesh

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the transportation component of the Market Intervention Scheme for tomato in Madhya Pradesh through NCCF on 12 February 2025.

Summary

With tomato prices falling in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and other major producing states, the Centre decided on 12 February 2025 to implement the transportation component of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS). Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved it for tomato in Madhya Pradesh through the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF). Under the component, when prices of TOP crops (tomato, onion and potato) differ between producing and consuming states, the storage and transport costs of moving the crop from the producing state are reimbursed to central nodal agencies such as NAFED and NCCF.
