On 15 October 2024, in New Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the establishment of three Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence (AI-CoEs) focused on healthcare, agriculture and sustainable cities, with ₹990 crore approved by the government. The CoEs will be led by AIIMS and IIT Delhi, IIT Ropar and IIT Kanpur. Pradhan complimented the apex committee led by Sridhar Vembu for its work on implementing the CoEs.
