The keel of the Indian Navy's third Cadet Training Ship, Yard 18005, was laid at L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli, Tamil Nadu, on 30 December 2024. The ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral Ravi Kumar Dhingra, Flag Officer Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Area. The contract for indigenous design and construction of three Cadet Training Ships was concluded between the Ministry of Defence and L&T on 7 March 2023. The ships will train officer cadets at sea after their basic training ashore, and the facility will also be extended to cadets from friendly foreign countries. The Long Term Integrated Perspective Plan (LTIPP 2012-27) envisages a force level of three Cadet Training Ships.
