TDB backs indigenous 16-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine plant in Navi Mumbai

The Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Department of Science & Technology sanctioned financial support to TechInvention Lifecare Ltd, Navi Mumbai, to set up a commercial-scale cGMP facility for an indigenously developed 16-valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV-16), DST said on 21 November 2025.

Summary

The indigenous PCV-16 vaccine covers 16 pneumococcal serotypes; 13 overlap with existing global PCV platforms, and three emerging serotypes — 12F, 15A and 22F — have been added for broader coverage. Early development was done at TechInvention's facility in the BSC BioNEST Bio-Incubator, RCB Faridabad, and later at its 'HORIZON' R&D centre in Navi Mumbai. An Indian patent has been filed.
