Taragiri, fourth Project 17A stealth frigate, delivered to Indian Navy

On 28 November 2025 Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders delivered Taragiri, the fourth Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) indigenous stealth frigate, to the Indian Navy in Mumbai.

Summary

Taragiri (Yard 12653) is the fourth ship of the Nilgiri class (Project 17A) and the third built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL). Designed by the Navy's Warship Design Bureau, it has CODOG propulsion and carries BrahMos missiles, MF-STAR radar, MRSAM and a 76 mm gun. Its build time was cut to 81 months against 93 months for the lead ship Nilgiri. It is a new avatar of the earlier Leander-class INS Taragiri (1980–2013), and the fourth P17A ship delivered in 11 months.
