On 11 December 2024, at M/s L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli, Tamil Nadu, the steel-cutting ceremony of the second of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) for the Indian Navy was held in the presence of RAdm Vishal Bishnoi, Assistant Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition. The Navy signed a contract with HSL for the five FSS in August 2023. With a displacement of 40,000 tons, the ships will carry fuel, water, ammunition and stores to replenish fleet ships at sea, bolstering the Navy's blue-water capability. The design is completely indigenous.
