The steel cutting ceremony of the first Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) for the Indian Navy was held at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, on 16 December 2024 in the presence of Cmde S Parthiban, Warship Production Superintendent, Kochi. The contract for construction of six NGMVs was concluded with CSL in March 2023, with induction of the ships into the Indian Navy planned from 2027 onwards. The NGMVs are envisaged as high-speed vessels with Surface to Surface Missile System, Anti-Missile Defence Systems, and Air Surveillance and Fire Control Radars. All the major role-defining equipment has been indigenously developed and manufactured.
