Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the 1 MW Green Hydrogen Plant at the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, Gujarat, on 31 July 2025. The 1 MW module, part of a 10 MW green hydrogen project whose foundation stone the Prime Minister laid at Bhuj on 26 May 2025, was commissioned within four months and can produce about 140 metric tonnes of green hydrogen a year. The plant was built by L&T engineers. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet on 4 January 2023 with an initial outlay of ₹19,744 crore, targets green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes a year by 2030.
