On 11 December 2024, in India, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan virtually inaugurated the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, the 7th edition, which began concurrently at 51 centres. The Software Edition runs non-stop for 36 hours and the Hardware Edition from 11 to 15 December 2024. Launched in 2017, SIH lets students solve problems posed by ministries, departments and industry; this year more than 250 problem statements came from 54 ministries, departments, state governments, PSUs and industries, and internal hackathons rose from over 900 in 2023 to over 2,247, making it the largest edition so far. PM Modi interacted with participants the same day.
