Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated India's first SkyCast System and Fog Observatory at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on 29 May 2026. Developed under Mission Mausam, it combines a Radar Wind Profiler, Ground-based Fog Aerosol Spectrometer, Lidar Ceilometer and other sensors to monitor the atmosphere up to 3 km and give pilots real-time weather information on fog and turbulence. Only 18 such systems existed worldwide, making India the 19th; the next facility will come up at Jewar Airport.
