Sixteenth Finance Commission submits report for 2026-27 to 2030-31
The Sixteenth Finance Commission, headed by Dr Arvind Panagariya, submitted its report for the award period 2026-27 to 2030-31 to President Droupadi Murmu on 17 November 2025.
Summary
The Sixteenth Finance Commission (XVIFC), constituted under Article 280(1) of the Constitution, also presented copies of its report to the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister. Its members are Annie George Mathew, Dr Manoj Panda, T. Rabi Sankar and Dr Soumyakanti Ghosh, with Ritvik Pandey as Secretary. The report covers the five years from 1 April 2026 and recommends how net tax proceeds are shared between the Union and the States and among States, grants-in-aid, and disaster management financing. It has two volumes and will become public once the Finance Minister tables it in Parliament under Article 281.
