On 16 October 2024, the Ministry of Textiles said Samarth, its demand-driven and placement-oriented umbrella skilling programme, has been extended for two years (FY 2024-25 and 2025-26) with a budget of ₹495 crore to train 3 lakh persons in textile-related skills. The scheme covers the entire textile value chain excluding spinning and weaving, and also offers upskilling/reskilling in apparel and traditional sectors such as handloom, handicraft and silk. So far 3.27 lakh candidates have been trained, of whom 2.6 lakh (79.5%) were employed; 2.89 lakh (88.3%) of those trained are women.
