Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the Indian Navy's offshore patrol vessel INS Sunayna as Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) in Karwar, Karnataka, on 5 April 2025. The ship carries 44 naval personnel from nine friendly nations of the Indian Ocean Region: Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. The flag-off coincided with the 10th anniversary of the SAGAR initiative and National Maritime Day, and Singh said the Prime Minister's MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) initiative would expand the SAGAR vision. He also inaugurated modern operational, repair and logistic facilities worth over Rs 2,000 crore built under Project Seabird at Karwar, in the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, and the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
