The flyover will decongest the Rourkela-Bondamunda section, where freight is expected to grow with the expansion of SAIL's Barsua-Taldih-Kalta mining complex, higher production at Rourkela Steel Plant and the planned doubling of the High-Density Network route. Separating freight and passenger traffic is expected to allow an additional 8 million tonnes per annum of freight.
