Rabi sowing crosses 614 lakh hectares; wheat at 319.74 lakh ha, oilseeds trail last year

The Agriculture Ministry released rabi area coverage as on 30 December 2024, showing 614.94 lakh hectares sown.

Rabi crop area coverage reached 614.94 lakh hectares as on 30 December 2024, against 611.80 lakh hectares in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare. Wheat was sown on 319.74 lakh hectares (313.00 last year), above its normal rabi area of 312.35 lakh hectares. Pulses covered 136.13 lakh hectares, led by gram at 93.98 lakh hectares, while Shri Anna and coarse cereals covered 48.55 lakh hectares. Oilseeds covered 96.15 lakh hectares, lower than 101.37 lakh hectares a year earlier, with rapeseed and mustard at 88.50 lakh hectares.
