The National Technology Readiness Assessment Framework (NTRAF) was unveiled by Principal Scientific Adviser Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood on 29 December 2025 as a common yardstick to measure the maturity of technology projects from laboratory concept to commercial deployment. Developed with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), NTRAF assesses projects across 9 Technology Readiness Levels, from proof of concept (TRL 1-3) to prototype development (TRL 4-6) and operational deployment (TRL 7-9), and is meant to guide R&D funds under national missions. Sood said the framework addresses the 'Valley of Death' between TRL 4 and TRL 7, and NTRAF is open for public consultation until 31 January 2026.
